The Halsey Block:  An ambassador to China, John Smith Halsey, built the block in 1885. His son had a drugstore in one building. The old back bar from the soda fountain is still in view. Another building's occupants is the Lariet Bar, which has many old photos and artifacts from Buena Vista's Historic past. Now owned by Connie Cameron, a great-great granddaughter of one of the town's first families.

Built in the late 1870's, the manor was purchased by Laura Fikany, a madam at the Pioneer House in Leadville. She added an outside staircase and turned the manor into "apartments" Damaged in a fire in 1976, now restored, the manor is rented again as "true" apartments.

The Grace Episcopal Church, built in 1883, is on the National Registry of Historic Places. It was part of the Timberline Circuit and had a traveling priest, who served the church but lived in Leadville. A mission church for 112 years - it is now a parish church. Beautifully maintained and almost completely original - the crucifix from Columbus is over 300 years old.
The Town Hall:  Originally housed the First National Bank of Buena Vista, and was one of only two banks which paid off all depositors after the crash of 1929. The bank's old vault is in the Town Hall's front room and now stores the town records.

Mountain biking, year-round in the 14ers region offers incredible scenery, some of the states highest, longest and emptiest trails. Some of the region's best rides are: The Colorado Trail, the states longest and most famous. The Salida Trail, an easy multi use urban trail starts downtown Salida, heads west and loops back to town. The Old Midland Grade Trail allows riders to ride the tracks of and old railroad from Trout Creek Pass down to Buena Vista, CO.
Even the youngsters enjoy the varied terrain for bike trails in and around the immediate area of Buena Vista.
Buena Vista River Road Trail: 
This is an easy, beautiful ride along the Arkansas River. The Monarch Crest trail is one of the nation's best rides. The Rainbow Trail contains partions that become the famous Banana Belt Loop Race every year in September.
