 The
Dorchester Hotel is of Mediterranean style, built in 1939 by famous Architect Frank Wyatt
Woods. It is a three story building that wraps around a garden patio. Decorative keystone panels,
terrazo floors and a metal grillwork with the hotel's initial letter have been preserved.
In 1950, Nat King Cole entertained in Miami Beach frequently and often visited at
the Dorchester Hotel. His
manager and staff lived at the Dorchester Hotel nevertheless. regretfully, Nat King Cole was not allowed to stay
overnight in any hotel in Miami Beach and had to stay in Liberty City.
Infamous Mafia figures Joe Banana and Tony Genovese made the Dorchester Hotel
their home in the early
1950's where they plotted the Mexican Peso speculation scandal. They did not venture outside but used a back room
where the Fand G Syndicate conducted illegal bookmaking operations.
Nowadays the Art Deco influence has revived and the glamour of the old buildings has come
