Description:  The Rainforest Retreat offers a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere off the beaten path, 30 minutes from downtown Hilo. At 500-ft. elevation on the slopes of Kilauea Volcano, temperatures are warm and balmy. Each unit is amidst young ohia forests and wild orchids. Your hosts operate an orchid nursery, specializing in Cattleya and Phalaenopsis. Come enjoy our gazebo, which offers a hot tub, just a short walk from your unit. Revel in the privacy and solitude of country in tropical paradise. From our kitchen, we offer breakfast, provided in your refrigerator - we include Kona coffee, teas, juice, breads and muffins, and island spreads. Things to do: geological wonders are found in all directions. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is 45 minutes away. Lava Tree State Park is 15 minutes to the east and lava-covered Kalapana is 20 minutes to the southeast. Warm springs, tide pools, black sand beaches and snorkeling bays are within a 30 minute drive. Enjoy moonlit walks on our rustic roads and view the countryside on our mountain bikes. Stroll through 'Hawaii Orchids' nursery at your leisure. Take home the beauty to friends and family. Anthurium, Cymbidium, Heliconia and other tropical flower gardens and nurseries are within a 15 minute drive. Things to bring: a few items you might find helpful are mask and snorkel, hiking shoes, sunscreen, hat, sun-glasses, and a light raincoat. Directions :  From Hilo Airport- Take Hwy 11 towards Volcano -left turn from Airport Road- about 8 miles. Turn left onto Hwy 130 at Keaau -Keaau Pahoa Road-. Proceed to the 6 mile marker. Turn right just past the marker onto Aulii Street. Go 1 mile and turn left onto 36th Avenue, the 3rd cross street. Proceed about 200 yards to the second house on the right. Green and white Rainforest Retreat sign, driveway lined with pine trees. Your unit Paradise Cottage, Ginger and Hibiscus are upstairs of the gray house. Park in the carport. Orchid Studio is down the driveway past the gazebo, left between the greenhouses, left towards the tan house. Park in the carport.
