The campus of the Best Western Wheat Lands Hotel & Conference Center covers a 4-block area in Garden City, Kansas. The campus hosts our 107 room hotel property, our business office, our restaurant, our fine dining supper club, the exercise room, the beauty salon, as well as our famous outdoor, "topless" pool-well, anyway it doesn't have a roof! Upon checking in, you will be greeted by a picture of the legendary Truman Capote, who stayed with us during the filming of the famous movie, "In Cold Blood", adapted from his novel by the same name. That is only the beginning of the history you can find in our community. Located on U.S. Highway 50, our customers enjoy our convenient location from the other areas of interest nearby. From our humble beginning as a town in the old west, we have matured into one of the "garden" spots in the entire state of Kansas. From the historic nineteenth century Windsor Hotel, favorite stop to many a famous cowboy, to the modern agricultural juggernaut that is Western Kansas, we have plenty to offer both our citizens, as well as to our guests. We are home to two of the finest golf courses anywhere, certainly in Kansas. Each August the Kansas Pro-Am golf tournament is held here, with play held on both courses. The world's largest free outdoor municipal swimming pool, with over 2½ million gallons of water, finds its home here, as does Lee Richardson Zoo, which is a top-ten tourist attraction in our state. The Finney County Game Refuge, just a few short minutes from our front door, is where you will find close to two hundred buffalo roaming the plains, just as they did a over a century ago. For the agriculturally minded, Iowa Beef Processors operates one of the world's largest beef packing operations just seven miles away. Beef is necessary to make it all work, and we are right smack dab in the middle of cattle country. Imagine how good that Certified Angus beef will taste tonight when you dine in our luxurious supper club. For those of you who like your fair a little more toward the coast, you will enjoy our lobster, or how about some jumbo shrimp? After dinner, you will dance the night away, as our club transforms itself from dining to dancing and the best party anywhere in town. Or maybe you would like to take a walk instead and enjoy a creamy delight from our Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlor just two blocks away. The next morning, you can rise early, have a cup of complimentary coffee in your own room or in our lobby and then head to the exercise room, right here on the property. For those of you a little more laid back, you can enjoy a full breakfast in our restaurant, compliments of the house! As you leave town, stop by our Wheat Lands Country Store and fill up your car with gas and your cooler with ice. We are here to see your every need is taken care of.
