Poplar Grove Plantation Home:

Built for the 1884 World's Fair in New Orleans, Poplar Grove reflects the Japanese influence on Victorian architectural design. Group tours, private parties, meetings, plantation dining and gospel choirs, by advance reservation. Private home listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Port Allen Lock:

Connects the Mississippi River to the Intracoastal Waterway. Visitors can stand on the lock wall and watch barges and other commercial vessels pass through every day from 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Located off of Highway 1 South; follow the signs to the Port.

Head of deepwater navigation on the Mississippi River. The docks and administrative building are located in the port complex off of Highway 1, south of the I-10 bridge.
The Dow Chemical Company Plant:

Located on 1,500 acres, the Dow Chemical complex is the largest petrochemical facility in Louisiana. Over 50 basic bulk chemicals are manufactured at the LA Highway 1 facility between Addis and Plaquemine. Tours available by advance reservation.
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church:

A faith community since 1835, the church and cemetery are located on S. River Road in Brusly. Many family names in the cemetery are those of Acadians who settled in the area.
Orange Grove Store:

Authentic plantation commissary store (circa 1850) featuring an extensive antique culinary collection. People who lived and worked on nearby plantations came to the store for mail, supplies, food and household needs, and as a meeting place for news and gossip. Located 11.5 miles north of Port Allen on the River Road. By appointment or drive by.
Allendale Plantation Historic District:  Listed on the National Register of Historic Places because of its status as a rare surviving plantation complex. On the River Road north of Port Allen. Private; drive-by.
Port Allen Middle School:  the present-day Port Allen Middle School is considered one of the finest examples of art deco buildings in Louisiana. Located on Rosedale Road (Highway 986) east of Highway 1. National Register of Historic Places.
Homestead House:  Located on the River Road north of Port Allen, Homestead House has been a West Baton Rouge Parish Landmark since it was built between 1915 and 1917. Private home.

The burial place of African-Americans important to West Baton Rouge history dates back to the 1850's. Located in Port Allen on the corner of Court and Commerce Streets near the old ferry landing.
Cinclare Sugar Mill:  Produces raw sugar from cane grown in nearby fields. Each fall the crop for the following year is planted and the mature crop is harvested and processed during the season known as "grinding." Located near Brusly on Highway 1. National Register Historic District. Private.
Schoonmaker Home:  The private home situated in the midst of moss-draped live oaks that arch across the road was the location recently for a Japanese film entitled "Solitude Point" on the River Road north of Port Allen.
Back Brusly Oak:  Believed to be over 350 years old, the Brusly Oak has traditionally been a community "bulletin board" and meeting place. Located on N. LaBauve west of Highway 1.

The Hebert House:

French Creole home (circa 1835) listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to many original interior features, there are three sets of pegged French doors on the exterior.
Monte Vista Plantation Home:  Built in the late 1850's by Louis de Favrot, son of Pierre Joseph de Favrot who purchased the land in 1800. Located on the River Road north of Port Allen. Private home, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Margaret Plantation Home:  The high peaks and sloping roof are typical of French colonial plantation homes of the early 1800's. Located off Highway 1 on Lafiton Lane. Private.
Catherine Plantation Home:  The 200-year-old-house (circa 1790) has been moved three times because of levee setbacks made necessary by the swift current of the river at this point. Located on the River Road north of Port Allen. Private.
Statue of Governor Henry Watkins Allen:  Seated statue facing the columned parish courthouse was created by well-known sculptor Angela Gregory. Allen served in the Civil War at the Battles of Shiloh, Vicksburg, and Baton Rouge and rose to the rank of brigadier general; later he became the last Confederate governor of Louisiana. Port Allen was named for this early West Baton Rouge Parish land owner.
