Designed by Henry C. Trost, contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright, and built in 1914 by Banker Smith, who embezzled the money from his own bank, The T.R.H Smith Mansion was formerly used as a residence of prominent citizens, as well as being reputed to be used as a brothel. Stories of buried or embezzled treasure and ghosts persist and the home is also known as the largest residence in the city at 5700 square feet. It boasts lovely spacious gardens and lawns, a sun porch and deck - while the oversized honeymoon suite features a king bed, fireplace, loveseat and mountain views. Perfect for small weddings, receptions, meetings, parties, catered luncheons and dinners. The large game room offers a vintage pool table, cable TV, and parlor games in the basement. Full German-style gourmet breakfast is also served daily. Four distinctively decorated rooms are named for areas of the globe that the owners have visited. For your recreational interests, less than an hour drive will find you at the White Sands National Monument, El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, Old Mesilla, Space Museum in Alamogordo, several golf courses, Sunland Park Race Track and hiking in the Organ Mountains. Southwest or Polynesian - Queen Bed Individual Decor-Desk-Telephone-Alarm Clock Southwest Room - Located in that corner of the house, with queen bed. Decorated in warm Southwest colors and rustic appointments, including real American Indian drums for tables, small desk. Extra large walk-in closet. Private Bathroom. Polynesian Room - Similar sized room with queen bed and rattan headboard surrounded by mosquito netting giving it a tropical flare. Decorated in light colors and appropriate Polynesian decor. Dressing area and one closet. Private bathroom.

European - King Bed Desk-Ceiling Fan-Telephone-Alarm Clock European - Lovely room with private bath including tub and shower, king bed with huge upholstered headboard, writing desk, ceiling fan, and 12 feet of closet space. The warm green walls compliment the flowery drapes and bedspread, giving it an Old World flavor.
