Local Attractions:
The Best Western Hermiston Inn is located in eastern Oregon. Also known as a border town to Washington state, Hermiston is the closest town to the tri-cities of Pasco, Kennewick and Richland. Pasco Airport is just 35 miles away. Agriculture was Hermiston's only industry until Umatilla Army Depot was constructed prior to World War II. Later McNary Dam was built, then Union Pacific Railroad developed Hinkle Terminal. Growing potatoes, wheat, corn and mint as well as ranching has brought a number of food processors to Hermiston such as Norpac Foods, Canada Nalleys and Simplot. Walmart Distribution Center has also brought employment opportunities to Hermiston. Hermiston is famous for its watermelons which are grown under perfect conditions.
