Local Attractions: The Best Western Inn & Suites is two blocks from the world famous Tillamook Cheese Factory. A self-guided tour upstairs lets you watch from above as the cheese is made and packaged. There is also a restaurant and gift shop. They just don't make cheese there; enjoy a double-scoop of real Tillamook ice cream. Tucked away in Tillamook County, just two blocks from the Best Western Inn & Suites is Debbie D's Sausage Factory, she creates sausage using much the same process used by her pioneer ancestors in the 1800's. The Blue Heron French Cheese Company, one mile from the property, offers a selection of Carol Thompson lighthouse, seascape, marine, and kite flying prints. In downtown Tillamook about a mile away is the Latimer Quilt Center. Housed in the original 19th century schoolhouse is a working textile museum and the Pioneer Museum which has three floors of Tillamook memories dating back to post Civil War days when Tillamook was first founded. Once downtown, enjoy our many shops, cafes and restaurants. Five miles south of the Best Western Inn and Suites is the Naval Air Museum. Housed in the one remaining wooden blimp hanger is a collection of World War II airplanes. The hanger itself is left over from World War II when blimps were used to patrol the coastline. Tillamook is located between the coastal mountain range and the beaches. Enjoy a day of fishing on a mountain river, then go fly a kite on the beach. Charter fishing companies will pick you up at the hotel and take you out deep-sea fishing. Take a camera with you while you drive around Tillamook County and enjoy the ever changing scenery of dairy farms, lighthouses, wildlife, waterfalls and mountains. Cape Meares Lighthouse is located 10 miles west of Tillamook on the north end of the beautiful Three Capes Scenic Loop. The park is open daily, throughout the year, from 7 a.m. to dusk with no day use admission charged, with nature trails, and the famous Octopus Tree. There are viewpoints where the visitor can view the offshore rocks for native birds and the annual whale migration.
