National D-Day Memorial:
We are located at the home of the National D-Day Memorial. Bedford was chosen as the memorial site because of its solemn distinction as the community sustaining the highest per capita loss of lives during the D-Day invasion. Because of this we choose to decorate our hotel with signed first edition prints that demonstrate the military drama of WWII and civilian life at home. Please visit the D-Days web site for more information at www.dday.org

| Booker T. Washington: Booker T. Washington National Monument commemorates the life and accomplishments of Booker T. Washington. He was born here on April 5, 1856, one of ten slaves on the Burroughs tobacco farm.. Booker left the farm at the age of 9, uneducated and newly freed. When he returned for a visit in 1908, he was a college president and influential statesman. By the time of his death in 1915, Booker was an internationally recognized educator, author, orator and spokesman for his race. Washington frequently wrote and spoke of his slave existence and the effect of that experience of his life. The realities of life as a slave in nineteenth-century Piedmont VA, the quest by black Americans for education and equality, and the post-war struggle over political participation all shaped the life, options, and the choices of Booker T. Washington. | |
